OCEAN ICE was presented by Ruth Mottram at the SnowPI project kick off meeting, held on 18-21 of May 2026, in Bergen.
Ruth Presented highlights from the project including; demonstrating the importance of freshwater fluxes from Antarctica for both global sea level and ocean circulation. Outlined the key surface fluxes from the Antarctic Ice Sheet—evaporation, sublimation, and wind-blown snow—and highlighted the advances we have made in modelling these processes as part of improving our understanding of the overall Antarctic Ice Sheet mass budget. Ruth also showcased several observational datasets that have been developed and made available through the WP3 Earth Observation activities, alongside Shenjie’s ocean dataset, which could provide valuable data and opportunities for future work within SnowPI.
