We are happy to announce that the ARGO floats are on board in perfect condition and ready for deployment in the Bransfield Strait. They will be used to measure water properties in the frontal area between the Weddell Sea and the central Western Antarctic Peninsula (cWAP). This data will be crucial for the scientific community in understanding the characteristics of these waters, including exchange and mixing processes, the influence of freshwater from melting ice, and the vertical current regime from surface to seafloor.
For Ukraine, this marks an important first step in joining the ARGO program, allowing us to contribute equally to the global oceanographic observation systems, including GOOS, SOOS, and Coriolis.
The floats will likely be deployed next week. This work will contribute towards Milestone 29: Float deployment and data delivery to community via ARGO servers.
