The SO-CHIC final meeting was held in Paris over 28-30th of October. SO-CHIC focuses on Antarctic circulation and its impact on heat and carbon, with a particular focus on the Weddell sea and the intermittent open water polynya that reappeared in 2016 following a 30 year hiatus. This meeting celebrated and shared the excellent science that had taken place over the five years of the project, as well as looked at what questions remain unanswered and new avenues of inquiry.
Several members of OCEAN:ICE took part in the meeting, and presented ongoing OCEAN:ICE science that follows, directly in some cases, from the SO-CHIC project. This highlighted ongoing OCEAN:ICE work on bottom water moorings, global ocean models forced by realistic melt patterns, mapping of the continental shelf properties and the analysis of trends in bottom water properties.
